Alpine touring skiers looking for a fantastic blend of comfort, light weight, and downhill performance won't have many better choices than the Scarpa Maestrale. Thanks to the construction, shape, and technological features, the Maestrale picks up where it's left off and sits atop a pretty competitive field of AT boots. Built with a Pebax shell, cuff, and tongue, this three-piece, 3 (ish) buckle boot is built for both the ups and the downs. Pebax is a great material because it's soft and flexible enough to allow for some good range of motion and comfort, but also light enough to be climb-friendly in any and all snow conditions. The top buckle is the most traditionally alpine, as the lower two are a blend of a cable buckle and a ratchet strap buckle. By including the cable instead of a whole 4th buckle, Scarpa has not only reduced the overall weight of the boot, but also made it easier to adjust the whole forefoot of the boot at once, which is very handy from a touring perspective. The ratchet strap buckle takes square aim at getting your heel back in the heel pocket. Sometimes AT boots get a bad name in terms of their downhill performance, but when you can get your heel in the back of the boot like you can in this one, the performance is not too far behind. Tech fittings and a touring sole complete this fantastic AT package, and you'll be ready for anything in the Scarpa Maestale ski boots.
