      The right ski pole size helps with balance, timing, and efficient movement on the slopes. When holding a ski pole upside down with the grip on the floor, your arm should form roughly a 90-degree angle at the elbow. Poles that are too long or too short can affect posture and make skiing feel less natural, so proper sizing is important for comfort and performance.

      To measure ski pole size, stand in your ski boots on a flat surface and flip the pole upside down. Grab the pole just under the basket and check that your elbow is bent at about a 90-degree angle. This method provides a quick and accurate way to find the correct ski pole length for your height and skiing style.

      A ski pole has five main parts, each with a specific job;

      • The Shaft is the main body of the pole and provides strength and support.
      • The Grip is the handle at the top of the pole, usually made from soft rubber, that gives you comfort and control.
      • The Strap loops around your wrist to help secure the pole and reduce hand fatigue. Often adjustable, straps are important for control and safety.
      • The Basket is the round disc near the bottom of the pole that keeps the pole from sinking too deep into the snow.
      • The Tip is the metal point at the end of the pole that grips the snow or ice and helps with stability when planting the pole.
