Choosing the right Ski or Snowboard helmet size starts with measuring your head and matching it to the manufacturer’s size chart.

Helmets should fit snugly all the way around without pressure points or movement when you shake your head. The helmet should sit level on your head, covering your forehead without pushing down too low. A proper helmet fit improves comfort, warmth, and most importantly, protection while skiing or snowboarding.

Ski and snowboard helmets should meet recognized safety certifications that confirm they’ve been tested for impact protection.

In North America, look for helmets certified to ASTM F2040 standards. Many helmets also carry CE EN1077 certification, which is commonly used in Europe. These certifications ensure the helmet meets minimum safety requirements designed specifically for snow sports and provides reliable protection on the mountain.

To measure helmet size, use a soft measuring tape and wrap it around your head just above your eyebrows and ears, keeping it level all the way around. This measurement (usually in centimeters) can then be matched to the helmet brand’s sizing chart. If you’re between sizes, trying on both is recommended to find the best and most secure fit.
